It is working fine besides one issue after the upgrade to windows 10. It displays the message plugged in, not charging on the battery meter. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the battery controller in device manager and I have checked power options settings. I also checked local policy settings to be sure, but nothing is blocking it there. I have tried updating drivers from the dell website to no avail. Dell Latitude D630 Battery Windows 10 Professional 32Here are the system specs: Windows 10 Professional 32-bit x64 processor (using the 32-bit OS) 1GB of memory (it is enough for what the pc is used for) Nvidia GEForce graphics (if it matters) All latest updates are installed, no domain It isnt an issue with the battery because it was working within windows 7. About a decade ago (or more) they started using Lithium Ion batteries in place of NiMH, and there was this spectacular video of a dell laptop on a conference room table going up in flames. It turned out that Lithium Ion batteries are very particular about overcharging (). The fix was to change to chargers with a data pin (barrel adaptor has ground on the outside of the barrel, hot on the inside of the barrel, and a data pin in the center). The adaptor would send data about its capacity, and the battery would shut off outside charging power after a period of time that corresponded to that capacity (as in: a charger with high capacity would be cut off sooner than a charger with a low capacity). I bring this up, because if that data pin is damaged or the circuitry that feeds data to that pin is damaged, the power adaptor will provide power for the laptop while plugged in, but wont be charging the battery. Also; the reason that report indicates a second battery is that some laptops had auxiliary batteries that would fit in the optical drive slot for extra run-time. Doesnt always help other than to eliminate one more possibility. If so you can let the charge level drop to below 25 and then reconnect the charger. If it doesnt display anything of interest or something excessively draining the battery, youre probably looking at a hardware issue, i.e a failing battery. Those D630s are a fair age now, I would be expecting the battery to need replacement at this stage, if it hasnt been already. Ive had several of them with this, as well as their predecessor, the D530. Windows can get confused and record incorrect battery statistics, which causes it to stop charging too early. Blowing away the ACPI battery control method clears that out and causes a re-detection of battery condition and compilation of new statistics, however youve already tried this to no avail. I seem to recall that generation of Dells have a built in hardware battery diagnosis routine in the BIOS. What does that say One other option is to boot another OS on it, even an Ubuntu LiveCD or something for quickness, and see does it charge. The computer automatically turns off when unplugged because the battery is at 0. There is no driver for the battery available on the dell site (not even a category for it). I seem to remember some of the newer ones having that feature.
